USAID supports tuberculosis testing in seven countries.
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided US$57 million in urgent relief to make up for lost ground in tuberculosis testing and treatment due to COVID-19. Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Africa, Tajikistan and Ukraine will receive funds to enhance screenings and implement control measures for both tuberculosis and COVID-19. The United States agency is working with partner governments and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Since 2000, they have helped to save over 60 million lives through their joint tuberculosis programs. The United States is a recipient of four Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, three Shining World Leadership Awards for Good Governance, seven Shining World Leadership Awards for Promoting Healthy Living, and Shining World Leadership Awards for Good Governor, Justice, Protection, and Environmental Protection; and a laureate of 25 Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, three Shining World Leadership Awards for Protection, two Shining World Leadership Awards for Loving Care, a Shining World Leadership Award for Good Governance, a Shining World Peace Leader Award, Shining World Caring Leadership Award, and Shining World Super Loving Care Leadership Award. China faces more cyclones with climate change.
A recent study authored by Prof. Xuejie Gao, a senior scientist at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics within the Chinese Academy of Sciences, concluded that global warming is likely to bring more frequent and intense tropical cyclones that touch land in China’s coastal provinces. Meanwhile, across all of Chinese territory, the increase is estimated to be approximately 18%. Tropical cyclones, with their strong winds, heavy rain and storm surges, are often devastating weather events. Prof. Xuejie Gao has specialized in creating high-resolution regional climate models which were used in his latest analysis, giving more detail compared to previously used global climate models. Pollinator-friendly bus stops appear in United Kingdom city.
Following in the footsteps of the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands, Leicester, England, has started converting the rooftops of 30 bus stops to Living Roof bus shelters for bees. The solar-powered roofs are being planted with a mix of wildflowers and sedums, which are a favorite of bees. Besides supporting pollinators, the green hubs will absorb rainwater, boost urban biodiversity, and help curb the effects of global warming. They could also reduce the heat generated by the city structures, which cause pollution and illnesses. The joint endeavor is by the Leicester City Council and Clear Channel, a US-headquartered international media company. All 479 bus shelters are envisioned to be bee-friendly by 2022. Bravo, Leicester City Council and Clear Channel, on this brilliant conservation program. May such green measures continue being emulated to save the endangered bee populations, in God’s protection.
Survey investigates the state of pure awareness experienced during meditation.
Dr. Alex Gamma from the Psychiatric Hospital of the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and Professor Thomas Metzinger from Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in Germany, recently analyzed the completed surveys of 1,400 meditators who answered questions regarding their meditation experiences. It was found that the state of pure consciousness involves twelve factors such as clarity, the perception of silence, luminosity, an alert awareness without the ego, and a reduction in perceived effort, desire and time. Next will be an effort to develop a kind of model that could further explain this experience. The study has been published in the well-respected peer reviewed journal PLOS ONE. Altruistic boy in the United States mows lawns for people in need for free.
Eight-year-old JR Achterhoff has been spending the summer mowing the lawns of single mothers, veterans, people with disabilities, and others who may need assistance with the task. JR intends to spend his spare time in the summer mowing, and hopes to reach 50 lawns as part of The 50 Yard Challenge. This initiative from the US-based non-profit Raising Men Lawn Care Service encourages children to help others in need. In an interview, JR said he just wanted to do what he was doing, rather than be out playing with friends. The first lawn mower he used did not even function properly, but a stranger saw his good deeds and gifted him a better one. Kind JR Achterhoff, our hats off to your loving heart and endeavor. Indian company releases vegan lamb kebabs.
The vegan startup called PlantMade recently announced that they have launched the first ever vegan lamb kebabs in the nation. The Peshawari Seekh Kebab will be available in the freezer section of local cities’ supermarkets at an affordable price. PlantMade was the first company in the country to sell a vegan egg product. They also offer plant-based butters and drinks, and are currently working on vegan burgers and vegan chicken items. A study in 2019 indicated that 63% of people in India would replace animal-based meat with plant-based alternatives. Great news, PlantMade, on the release of your new delicious vegan lamb kebabs. In Celestial grace, may the spiritual Indian nation soon become fully plant-based, setting good karma in motion through their compassion for all beings.
Turkey passes new animal rights law.
Acknowledging animals as living beings rather than commodities, the new Turkish legislation substantially increases the punishment for those who inflict harm, torture or death on animals. The individual found guilty of such crimes will face a prison sentence from six months to four years, while caregivers found intentionally abandoning their animal companions are subject to a fine of up to the equivalent of US$230. Additionally, police will be allowed to form animal protection squads to respond to incidents of abuse as well as cock- and dog-fighting. In 2019, the Turkish parliament formed an Animal Rights Legislative Commission that has helped to develop the updated law. I know that I have never been able to comprehend and acknowledge Your greatness and eminence the way I should, in a befitting and proper manner, and I offer my apologies for that. I apologize that I have never been able to appreciate the tears You have shed in pain for the world and that I have not been able to wipe away Your tear-stained cheeks. I apologize that I have never been able to offer any relief to Your heartache from the sufferings of our time and this world. I apologize that I haven’t been the kind of disciple that I should be and that my mind deceives me to always justify my mistakes. In fact, I always have been a burden to You. However, Your Love and Kindness are deeply ingrained in the depths of my heart, and I worship You. In this mundane world, I have no other joy except remembering You, and I regret all the moments that I spent thinking of other things than You.
